Mk4 Toyota Supra

The first ever supra was introduced into the market in 1978. Manufactured by The Toyota Motor Corporation. The name Supra is derived from Latin meaning to ‘surpass’ or ‘go beyond’ and the cars have lived up to their name.

There are 5 generations of the supra cars since its genesis. The first generation which was mainly based on the Toyota Celica lift back model ran from early 1979 to late 1980. The fate of the Celica supra was unfortunately cut short in 1986 during the third generation and the name supra was used in the global market. The two were since then manufactured separately and not as a single unit.

With this great change however, we were able to be blessed by the topic of today’s discussion, arguably the best supra model, the 4th generation Supra Mk4. Since its introduction to the market in 1993, this model has taken the world by storm and even after its discontinuation in 2002, the car is still the most sought after supra model.

What makes the Mk4 so special is its immortal 2JZ engine Which produces over 1000 horsepower without needing any internal modification! However, finding these cars in stock condition is next to impossible. Ever since the world realized its brilliance finding, a non-modified car is very rare.

In stock conditions the Mk4 is powered by a 3.0-liter twin turbocharged inline-six engine that produces up to 320 hp and 315 lb-ft of torque (2Jz series engine) that produces up to 320 hp and around 440 Nm torque. This car accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 5.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 277m/h.

Its key specifications are an automatic transmission with a 1988 cc engine displacement. It has 6 cylinders and 4 valves per cylinder. The car runs on petrol and has a coupe body type. As stated earlier though finding a brand new stock Mk4 is almost impossible and very expensive with one of them can cost you an upwards of one hundred thousand dollars. However, you can find modified or previously owned cars at as low as ten thousand dollars. The cheapest recorded sale of a supra was of a 1984 4th generation that was sold at 4000 dollars. While the highest recorded sale was of a 1994 supra sold to the fast and furious movie franchise at 550,000 dollars.
